Chatham Tuesday, August 3 8:00am - 11:30am	Chatham Schools Summer Institute Presented by: Deborah Day Marianne Nicholson	Transitions can be challenging and many children feel anxious about starting kindergarten. When children transition smoothly from preschool to kindergarten, they have a more positive attitude towards school and do better academically. Positive partnerships between early childhood educators and kindergarten teachers are critical to this process. In this workshop, participants will discuss topics of mutual interest. Chatham Tuesday, August 3 6:00pm - 8:00pm	CPR	(American Heart Association, approved by DCD, and mandatory for all child care providers): Includes infant, child and adult CPR. Effective 7/1/2008 CPR must be renewed on or before the expiration date recorded on card or every 2 years, whichever date comes first.	Location: Child Care Networks 117 E. Chatham Sat., August 28 9:00am - 1:00pm	Emergency Preparedness Presented By: Edna Williams	The goal of this class is to ensure the safety of all members of the child care community. This includes the children, their families and the child care facility staff. Participants will learn to, plan for emergencies, prepare the facility, staff members, children and families for possible emergencies, practice emergency plans, respond to and protect children and staff members, and recover from the emergency by helping children and staff members cope with their feelings, get needed medical care and make necessary repairs. Chatham Thursday, Sept 9 6:30pm - 8:30pm	Tox Free NC Presented by: Billie Karel	Pesticides are poisons - no doubt about it. People often use them to combat everyday pests in homes and child care centers - things like ants, cockroaches and weeds - but even when used correctly, they can be very dangerous for children, pets, and other small critters! The truth is that broadcast pesticide spraying is seldom necessary for common pests, and can create health risks for anyone who uses the space, especially for kids. Yet sadly broadcast pesticide sprays are still used in most NC child care facilities. Come learn about safer strategies for pest control at home and in child care, and get tips for working with pest control contractors to get the safest possible service at the best price. Chatham Monday, Sept 13 6:30pm - 9:00pm	Nurturing the Brain: The Neurological Foundations of Social Emotional Development Presented by: Chatham County Partnership for Children	This training provides an overview of how the human brain develops in the context of early relationships, with a special focus on how early caregiving experiences shape the development of stress response and self-regulation systems.
